BKM provided design services on the Arnold Elementary School replacement project located in Arnold, MD. The new, standalone facility has a state rated capacity (SRC) of approximately 565 students and includes the following spaces: general classrooms (19), early childhood classrooms (5), special education classrooms (2), learning studios (2), media center, computer lab, art room, music room, gymnasium, cafeteria, as well as the administrative and health/guidance areas.
The heating/cooling source includes a high efficiency air cooled chiller and multiple gas-fired condensing boilers to provide four-pipe heating and chilled water to central air handling unit equipment. Central station rooftop air handling units serving all-air variable air volume (VAV) systems condition the classroom spaces. In addition, rooftop air handling units for the administration, media center and computer room areas include chilled water and DX (direct expansion) coils. Rooftop units have been provided for the gymnasium and cafetorium spaces and include chilled water coils only.
A 350kW, 480/277 volt generator is located outdoors in a sound attenuated weatherproof enclosure. The generator is natural gas powered with a sound attenuated enclosure.
This project was designed to meet LEED Silver certification.
