BKM Lunch & Learn: Mechanical/Electrical Interdisciplinary Training
BKM mechanical team members, Casey Ross and Jimmy Weaver, facilitated a lunch and learn discussion amongst employees from various departments to help boost communication and understanding across departments.
The discussion gave an overview of mechanical systems, written to appeal primarily to the perspective of electrical designers and engineers. The presentation’s content was not intended to teach design but rather to give a working knowledge of basic mechanical concepts with the goal to better communicate and answer questions from building owners and architects.
The group discussed design considerations for building systems with a high level of overlap between mechanical and electrical disciplines, for example smoke dampers and equipment selection. The lunch and learn aimed to also assist junior mechanical staff, construction administration staff, and non-technical/business development staff to help them effectively communicate about the mechanical scope of projects.
