BKM provided MEP design services for the new 14,000-square-foot Center for Maryland Agriculture.
The building provides administrative and meeting spaces for several agencies including the USDA Farm services agency, the County Soil Conservation District, the County Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management, Maryland Cooperative Extension, and Natural Resource Conservation Services. The center consolidates many of the support services for the agricultural community, promotes the future sustainability of the agricultural industry, serves as an education resource center and field destination for school children and adults, and provides open space benefits of walking and equestrian riding trails.
The building was designed to look and feel like a farm from the architectural design of the building to the presence of field and livestock operations. The sustainable features on this project include low-flow plumbing fixtures and an energy efficient HVAC system. The project achieved LEED Gold and EPAct Energy Star certification.
