As the prime consultant, BKM performed a conditions assessment and the design required as part of a National Institutes of Health’s grant proposal for a project to renovate an existing laboratory space in the Behavioral Biology Research Center building at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus.
The design included Class 1000/ISO6 and Class 10,000/ISO7 clean room spaces to meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) standards, which housed nano, radio-isotope, and processing clean rooms, and a PET/MRI unit. Utility requirements consisted of stringent temperature, humidity and monitoring controls, medical grade plumbing systems, ultra high purity water systems, power, lighting, and fire alarm. The HVAC systems were designed to provide complete redundancy, including exhaust systems for the Class II Type B2 biological safety cabinets and hot cells.
