BKM provided MEP design services for the renovation of approximately 15,000-square-feet to serve the Bio-MET research laboratories.
The laboratory spaces are located on the first and third floors of the General Research Building (GRB) formerly known as the Medical Examiners Building. The renovations include primarily laboratory and laboratory support spaces. The existing supply and exhaust ductwork serving the renovated areas was removed in its entirety and replaced with new distribution systems as well as constant/variable volume terminal units consistent with university standards. The laboratory spaces were designed for a minimum of six air changes from the central supply and exhaust systems. Where six air changes did not satisfy the cooling demand, supplemental cooling units were provided to meet the cooling requirements of the occupied spaces.
